Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny little town that is a bit sleepy. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think there is a separate island to the west of Montreal However, in reality this part of West Island is home to every aspect of Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. However, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she had. She admitted in an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. The moment I outgrew the size of my male companion then I slowed down. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school that pushed her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was that of Rita (pictured in the below photo) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 which was viewed only occasionally.
